How to Switch From WhatsApp to GB WhatsApp
Thinking about moving from the official app to GB WhatsApp? You are making a great choice! Many users want to enjoy advanced privacy features, custom themes, and extended media limits. However, the biggest fear is losing years of precious chat history, photos, and voice notes during the transition.
Do not worry. Switching to the GB WhatsApp mod is actually a straightforward process if you follow the right steps. This guide will show you exactly how to migrate your account safely without losing a single message.
Before we begin, make sure you have the official app still installed and working. You will also need to get the GB WhatsApp latest version to ensure a smooth and secure migration.
Preparation Before Switching
Preparation is the key to a successful migration. Before you uninstall anything, you need to get your phone ready for the new installation.
- Check Your Storage: Ensure your phone has at least 2GB of free internal storage. The migration process requires extra space to duplicate and move your backup files.
- Charge Your Battery: Moving gigabytes of media files can take time and drain your battery. Keep your phone charged above 50%.
- Do Not Uninstall Yet: Leave the official WhatsApp installed on your phone for now. We need it to create the final backup.
- Find Your File Manager: You will need a File Manager app to rename some folders later. Most Android phones come with a built-in "My Files" or "File Manager" app.
Backup Official WhatsApp Data
This is the most critical step. GB WhatsApp cannot read backups directly from Google Drive, so we must create a local backup on your phone's internal storage.
- Open your official WhatsApp.
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner and go to Settings.
- Navigate to Chats > Chat backup.
- Tap on "Back up to Google Drive" and select "Never". This forces the app to save the backup locally.
- Tap the green "BACK UP" button. Wait for the process to reach 100%.
- To be extra safe, wait a minute and tap "BACK UP" one more time.
Now your chat history is safely stored on your device's local memory.
Install GB WhatsApp
With your chats backed up, it is time to install the new app. But first, we need to prepare the backup folder so the new app can find it.
- Open your phone's File Manager app.
- Go to Internal Storage > Android > media > com.whatsapp.
- You will see a folder named "WhatsApp". Rename this folder to "GBWhatsApp".
- Open the renamed folder. Inside, you will find another folder named "WhatsApp". Rename it to "GBWhatsApp" as well.
- Open this folder, and you will see subfolders like WhatsApp Media, WhatsApp Audio, etc. Rename all of them to replace "WhatsApp" with "GBWhatsApp" (e.g., GBWhatsApp Media).
- Now, uninstall the official WhatsApp from your phone. Important: When prompted, do NOT check the box that says "Keep app data".
- Install the GB WhatsApp app using the APK file you downloaded earlier.
Restore Chats
You are almost there! Now we just need to log in and restore the messages into your new GB WhatsApp app.
- Open the newly installed app.
- Tap "Agree and Continue". Do NOT tap "Restore" on the very first screen.
- Enter your phone number and verify it with the OTP code sent via SMS.
- Grant the app permission to access your contacts and storage.
- The app will scan your internal storage and find the local backup we renamed earlier. A screen will pop up saying "Backup found".
- Tap the green "Restore" button.
- Wait patiently. Depending on the size of your media files, this could take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes.
- Once finished, tap "Next", set up your profile name, and all your chats will be right there!
Common Migration Issues
Sometimes things do not go perfectly on the first try. Here are the most common issues users face when switching, and how to fix them quickly:
- "Backup Not Found" Error: This usually happens if you misspelled the folder names during the renaming step. Go back to your File Manager and ensure the folders are named exactly "GBWhatsApp" without any spaces.
- Verification Code Delay: If you requested too many SMS codes recently, your carrier might delay the message. Wait 10 minutes and try the "Call Me" option instead.
- Missing Media Files: If your text messages restored but your photos are blurry or missing, it means you forgot to rename the subfolders inside the Media folder.
- App Crashing on Startup: This can occur if you downloaded a corrupted APK file. Delete it and download a fresh copy from a trusted source.
Safety Tips
Using a modified app comes with responsibilities. Keep these safety tips in mind to protect your account and your data:
- Use an Anti-Ban Version: Always ensure you are using the latest anti-ban version of the app. Outdated versions are more likely to trigger security flags from the official servers.
- Avoid Spamming: Do not use the mass message broadcasting feature to spam hundreds of unknown contacts. This is the fastest way to get your number temporarily suspended.
- Keep Local Backups: Since cloud backups are not natively supported, make it a habit to create manual local backups every week.
- Do Not Overuse Mod Features: Features like freezing your last seen or downloading statuses are great, but using extreme features (like sending 100 images at once) constantly might cause the app to lag.
